"So… what's the ROI?" How I automated Copilot business cases with MCP

Every Microsoft 365 Copilot conversation I have with a client ends with the same question: "So… what's the ROI?" For a long time my answer was a spreadsheet, a few screenshots and a slide deck I rebuilt by hand for every client. It took half a day, and the numbers were only as consistent as my copy-and-paste. AI assistants can help, and I use Copilot Chat, Researcher and Cowork skills. But when I asked them for an ROI dashboard, I got a slightly different formula and a different layout each time. That's fine for a one-off. It isn't fine for a number a CFO will question. So I built my own Model Context Protocol (MCP) server : the Copilot Consultant MCP . It gives an AI assistant a set of consulting tools (readiness, build path, use cases and ROI), plus tools that produce a client-ready dashboard and PowerPoint deck. The maths lives in Python code, so the same inputs always give the same answer. What the Copilot Consultant MCP does Scores Copilot readiness ...

Power Automate from the terminal: GitHub Copilot CLI + Microsoft's Power Platform plugin

PS C:\> copilot-win32-x64 -p "List my Power Automate environments" Power Automate from the Terminal GitHub Copilot CLI + Microsoft's Power Platform plugin What if you could create, debug and manage Power Automate flows by typing plain English into a terminal? Microsoft now publishes a Power Platform plugin for GitHub Copilot CLI that does exactly that. I set it up end to end and wrote a runbook, so you don't have to hit the same walls I did. The runbook covers installing everything, the three errors that will almost certainly trip you up, the prompts that actually work, and how to build flows your Copilot Studio agents can call. It was verified on Windows 11 Pro (26200) with PowerShell 7.6.5 and Node v20.2.0. What you can do with it Discover : list environments and flows, find the flows that failed in the last 24 hours, and get an inventory report of every flow and its owner. Create : describe a flow in a sentence ("runs weekdays at 9am, reads...

ADTD Modern: I rebuilt Microsoft's Active Directory Topology Diagrammer for Windows Server 2025

If you've worked with Active Directory for a while, you probably remember ADTD, Microsoft's Active Directory Topology Diagrammer. You pointed it at a domain, and a few minutes later you had Visio diagrams of your sites, replication and domains. It was brilliant, but it stopped in 2011. ADTD only understands Windows Server up to 2008 R2 and Exchange 2010. It needs .NET 2.0, draws only in old versions of Visio, and knows nothing about Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD). So I built a modern replacement: ADTD Modern . It's free on GitHub, and this post walks through what it does and how to use it. What ADTD Modern does In one run, ADTD Modern: Draws your Active Directory in draw.io (desktop or web, both free): sites, subnets and site links, replication connections, domains and trusts, FSMO roles, application partitions, OUs and GPO links, DFS Replication and Exchange. Visio output is still there if you want it. Understands current versions : Windows Server up...
